The Diaspora Congolaise de Houston (DCH) was founded in 2019 when a group of dedicated members came together with a shared vision: to unite Congolese individuals living in Houston. Despite our diverse backgrounds and immigration stories from various regions of the Republic of Congo, we foster a deep sense of love and care for one another, thriving in our unity. Since our inception, we have focused on common goals: providing social support to those in need, promoting financial literacy, and investing in the education of the next generation to strengthen our community.
Our mission is to support the Congolese community in Houston through various initiatives. We offer financial assistance to individuals from the Republic of Congo living in the area, as well as social support by helping connect them with local organizations when our funds are limited. Additionally, we provide temporary shelter for up to 30 days for those in need, whether they are current residents or newcomers. We also invest in our youth by offering scholarships to Congolese students graduating high school who plan to attend vocational or accredited colleges, requiring their parents to be community members and proof of enrollment to be submitted. Finally, we host an annual charity gala to raise funds for our initiatives while celebrating our vibrant culture.
Our Congolese community in Houston feels like one big, lively family, and we take pride in being part of it. As more of us make Houston our home, we bring our rich traditions, adding vibrant colors to the city’s multicultural scene. We love coming together for lively events where the sounds of traditional music and dance fill the air, and the delicious aromas of our Congolese dishes invite everyone to join in the celebration.
In this welcoming space, friendships flourish, and we share our stories, creating a warm atmosphere for all. We treasure our heritage while embracing the chance to connect with others, enriching the Houston community with our culture and experiences. All generations are welcome here, sharing in the same loving environment.
